The Matter of Balance class at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church enjoyed a visit from a physical therapist. They learned how to safely get up after a fall and everyone received a goody bag from Advance Rehab that included lots of useful things and some fun orange sunglasses. This group is armed with information, tips, and strategies to avoid falls!
The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) of Northwest Georgia presented a check to the 7th American Legion District at their quarterly meeting at the Cedartown Post 86 on Saturday. In the photo are: Dr. Temitope Walker, Georgia Senior Hunger Nutrition Coordinator; Rogena Walden, NW Georgia AAA Wellness Coordinator; and Lewis Kent, 7th American Legion District Commander.
This is the fifth year of the Georgia Senior Hunger Grant program and the first year that the funds have been awarded to a single organization. That came about because of the grant proposal submitted by Kent, which described a project to provide groceries to veterans throughout the 10 counties of the 7th District.
These are challenging times and the risk of going hungry has only gotten worse. Far too many don’t have enough money to buy food. In fact, 1 in 5 older adults in Northwest Georgia has limited access to healthy food. This grant will start a project and an ongoing partnership between the AAA and the American Legion to make lives better for veterans in Northwest Georgia.
